How to Place DONECO® TENS Unit Electrodes During Labor

All mothers who had normal delivery giving birth can relate to one another when it comes to labor pains. It’s inescapable! How do you obtain the fastest pain relief during labor using DONECO® TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) unit pads? The very key to fast pain relief using TENS therapy is the proper placement of electrodes. The same is true for all the other indications of TENS therapy, whether to relieve labor pains or soothe sore tired feet.

Since labor pain is one of the worst types of pain a woman could experience, properly placing the electrodes would help alleviate pain brought about by uterine contractions. You don’t have to be a healthcare practitioner for you to master the right way of placing the electrodes. Here are some helpful tips on how to do that.

Know the Placement of the First and Second TENS Unit Electrodes

Like every procedure, it is important to know what you have to do first. Initially, you need to know where the first electrode should be placed. Earlier during the onset of labor, place the first electrode just three finger width below your shoulder blade and one finger width across the spine. To facilitate ease in determining the exact location, you may try to move your arm backwards to get a better view of your shoulder blade. See to it that the wire is leading down. Do the same thing with the second electrode on the opposite side.

Place the Third and Fourth Electrodes Just Above the Sacrum

Since you already know where to place the first two electrodes for TENS unit, it’s much easier to place the third electrode this time. The bottom end of the pad should be placed just above the sacrum and the wire should be pointing up. Repeat the same process with the fourth electrode.

When all of the electrode pads are already placed properly, the wires should then be attached to the device. You’ll know that the device is already working when you can already feel a tingling sensation. You may adjust the strength of the current depending on your comfort level.

A TENS machine is not only for regular body pains. Together with DONECO® TENS unit pads, it can work wonders during labor. Just make sure to follow the instructions mentioned above to get the maximum pain relief from your TENS.
